SCANDINAVIAN MODERN

20 th Century Design

The emphasis of the exhibition, presented on 100 square meters, is on furniture and lights from known Scandinavian designers. In the last sixty years, these designers have inspired one another in a visionary, but simultaneously also familiar, manner.
The talent with which Hans Wegner expressed himself in wood is singular. Vilhelm Lauritzen aspired to timelessness and Fabricius Kastholm captured the heart beat of international tendencies. All of them, however, abided by the rules of Functionalism - an enormous wealth of ideas and visual sense of form that crossed borders and created groundbreaking poetry, which expanded outside of north european countries in the 1950ies as a new style; a new variation of modernism.
Lamps from Paavo Tynell, Alvar Aalto, Preben Dahl and Objects from Nanna Ditzel, Poul Kjaerholm, Frits Schlegel, Carl Malmsten, Kerstin Holmquist and Fritz Henningsen, complete the exhibition.
